Choledocholithiasis refer to stones located in the common bile duct, called common bile duct stones. Most Choledocholithiasis are moved from gallbladder stones. Common bile duct stones can lead to serious, life-threatening common bile duct infection, pancreatitis, liver inflammation, etc. When the bile duct is obstructed, bacteria can multiply to form cholangitis and spread through the blood to cause infection in other parts of the body.
Symptoms of Choledocholithiasis
- Pain in the right upper quadrant, radiating to the right shoulder blade.
- Fever, chills, nausea, vomiting .
- Yellowing of skin and sclera.
The Choledocholithiasis
causes obstruction of the common bile duct, hindering the flow of bile, causing abdominal pain and yellowing of the skin. Stone obstruction affects the flow of bile, causing bacteria to multiply rapidly, which can lead to biliary inflammation and systemic inflammation.
How treat?
- Surgical treatment is cholecystectomy, as most gallbladder stones cause Bile duct stones.
- ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) can remove most stones and is safer than abdominal surgery. But stones can recur.
Prevention of Bile duct stones
